Learn Abolition

It's easy to become part of the movement to abolish nuclear weapons. ICAN's education booklet, Learn Abolition, gives 17 ideas for students to engage with this key issue for the survival of our world.

Why disarmament education?

The UN Expert Group on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education made 34 recommendations that were endorsed with a unanimous resolution of the world's governments at the General Assembly.

Governments agreed that there has never been a greater need for education in the areas of disarmament and non-proliferation, especially with regard to weapons of mass destruction, but also in the field of small arms and international terrorism.

In recent years, changing concepts of security and threat have demanded new thinking. Such new thinking will arise from those who are educated and trained today.

Governments should be delivering disarmament education in schools, as well as supporting NGO's to generate and distribute information and disarmament educational materials.
